NPT PrepCom 2007 in Vienna
We were a group of 20 youth between 16 and 25 years.
From 27th April to 8th May we attended the study and action trip "License to Disarm 007" which we organized ourselves. We took part at the Preperatory Committee for the Non Proliferation Treaty at the United Nations in Vienna. We were doing different actions and projects, talked to diplomats and delegates. For the organization of our travel we were supported by the Pressehütte Mutlangen, and finanzial by from "Die Gesellschafter". Its a program by "Aktion Mensch" which is giving civil society various possibilities to discuss and connect efforts. Thanks for this support! By them we were asked the question "In what a society are you willing to live?". Here our answer: "We are willing to live in a society in which no nukes are existing and security is based on trust instead of the threat of nuklear weapons. Resources should be use to solve problems together like the climate cathastrophe, poverty reduction and so on. The threat of nukes is getting more and more dangerous. The negotions on the Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2005 failed. The conflicts with Iran and North Korea are unsolved. The nuclear weapon states are not disarming and even in Germany soldiers are training with this weapons.
![]() Youth Speech at the PrepCom 2007![]() This year, there was again a conference on the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) at the UN. The meeting in Vienna was marked by the deadlock which already characterized the last Review Conference of the NPT in 2005 (find out more at www.npt-webcast.info/ via online-interviews). This year, for the second time, youth were able to present a speech from their perspective at the NGO-presentations to the plenary of the conference. The speech was held by Nora Hofstetter and Philipp Spieß in the name of BANg.. See this and other youthspeeches here! |
