Demonstration in Buechel, Germany

In Büchel, Germany are still 20 US-Nuclear Weapons deployed as part of the NATO nuclear sharing. From the 25th to 30th August 2008 an Actioncamp by the campaign "Unsere Zukunft - atomwaffenfrei" (atomwaffenfrei.de) took place and ended with a big demonstration on 30th August.

10 BANg members joined the action camp and the demonstration. We had a lot of colorful actions like clowning, street- theatershowing and we showed a Hiroshima-Nagasaki exhibition to the soldiors until the police send us away. Also a peaceful Go-in took place where 18 people got arrested. Three people from Belgium managed to climb over the fence befor they got arrested. Gratulations to them!

This act of civil disobedience took place after 7 years of demonstration and asking the German goverment to send the American Nukes back home (not directly of course) because Germany signed the NPT and committed that they will "not receive [..] control over such weapons or explosive devices directly, or indirectly" and the nuclear sharing is a indirect control.

This demonstration was the beginning of an intensive campaign and more civil disobedience in Büchel to give an example for nuclear abolition and how pressure from civil society can form a political will, so BANg will come back to Büchel!
